“The Seeing Eye® Experience: From Puppies to Partners”
Visit the school that is the pioneer and innovator of dog guide services worldwide. Learn how the organization was started and how it has enhanced the mobility and independence of thousands of individuals with vision loss for over 80 years. You will also get to learn how these amazing partnerships are formed – from the breeding of the puppies to the training of the dogs, and from the selection of our students to the lifetime of follow-up care provided to each team. Our guests will also learn the appropriate way to approach a dog guide team and how to responsibly manage their pet dogs around a working dog.
The Seeing Eye offers public tours of the Washington Valley Main Campus on select Mondays and Thursdays throughout the year. We ask our guests to arrive on campus by 10 a.m. Tours end shortly before noon. The program, although not a “tour” in the literal sense, takes place in our Guest Lounge, our Hallway of History and our Dining Room.
During the program, visitors will watch a brief video about The Seeing Eye and spend some time with a graduate of our program to learn about life with a Seeing Eye dog and other life experiences as an individual with vision loss. A Seeing Eye instructor, along with one of the dogs currently in training, will discuss the training process.
