A Message to Our Supporters

By Glenn Hoagland, Seeing Eye President & CEO

In these difficult times, we wanted to let you know The Seeing Eye continues to pursue our mission of providing increased independence, confidence, and safety through the use of Seeing Eye dogs. We are OK, and we hope that you are, too.

With more than 200 dogs on our campus, we can never shut down completely. But we are continuing under “reduced operations mode.” Our primary concern is the continued health of our staff, our students, and of course, our dogs. Thanks to the tireless efforts of our staff, and the hard work of our students, we were able to graduate our March 2nd class a little ahead of schedule so they could all return home safely.

We have reduced the number of people on campus, mostly focused on those people who directly care for and work with our amazing dogs. The rest of our staff continues to work, either from home or, if still on campus, in areas where they can maintain a safe six foot distance from others. Where employees must work in closer proximity to each other, we are asking them to wear personal protective equipment. And of course, we are asking them (and you!) to frequently wash hands.

Our Admissions Department continues processing applications from people who are blind seeking a place in a future class, and our Instruction & Training Department continues to provide follow-up support – by phone or video conference – to graduates who need it. One of our instructors even drove to North Carolina to provide assistance to a graduate there.

We want to assure you, as a supporter of The Seeing Eye, we will be here for our graduates and their dogs during, and after, this crisis.

Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts
