Hugh's Day: Snow!

By Craig Garretson, Communications Officer

Hugh, a black Lab puppy is seated outside in the newly fallen snow. He's looking up at the camera with an excited and alert expression.

When The Seeing Eye was founded in 1929, our first home was in Nashville, Tennessee — Morris Frank’s home town. But the hot summers made it difficult to train dogs in July and August, and we moved to north to New Jersey.

But the Garden State offered another advantage: Snow! As we serve all 50 states and all provinces of Canada, it’s important our puppies are ready to walk in snow and ice.

Even those Seeing Eye dogs who are matched with someone living in Hawaii, Puerto Rico, or some other warm-weather state will be ready should their person take a vacation somewhere snowy!
