Ten Tips for Training Your Dog

By By James A. Kutsch, Jr.

You now have the oldest guide dog school in the world on your side to help you train your pup.

For more than eight decades, The Seeing Eye® has raised and trained puppies to become guide dogs for people who are blind or visually impaired. In that time, they’ve learned a thing or two about training a happy, healthy, well-mannered dog.

How do I know all this! Well, I’m Mickey, a yellow Lab, guide dog in training, and puppy journalist. Me and my #FutureHero friends, Sarge and Gabby, will be using our paw-friendly keyboards to provide you the inside scoop from The Seeing Eye headquarters.

But enough about me–back to your pup.

Training your dog can be a test of your patience and persistence. Luckily, you can rely on the time tested principles in your 10 Tips Training Guide to build and maintain well-mannered and obedient doggy behavior.

As you work on your training, it is important to keep track of your progress. Be sure to use the “Training Journal” on the last page of your guide to ensure you cover the essential training steps and note areas for improvement.

Together, we will make sure training your dog is a paws-itively amazing adventure.
