Celebrating 95 Years: June Gala Tickets On Sale

As part of our 95th celebration year, we are proud to announce Margaret E. “Peggi” Howard, D.Litt., as the recipient of the Dorothy Harrison Eustis Humanitarian Award.

Peggi is being recognized for her outstanding leadership throughout her many careers, all demonstrating a reach for a better future for humankind.  She began as a licensed social worker, where her work focused on addressing food inequality and access for women, infants, and children. Peggi then moved to State of New Jersey government positions, most notably as Cabinet Secretary and Deputy Chief of Staff in Governor Kean’s administration. There she worked within the government to continue to advocate for critical social programs and services, including safe and accessible childcare. After leaving state government, she served as the Vice President of Administration and University Relations at Drew University during Governor Kean’s tenure there as President, and the three presidents following.  She retired from Drew University in 2015.

Joining The Seeing Eye in 2009, first as a Trustee and then as Vice Chair of the Board, Peggi stepped in ably and adroitly in December 2021 during a leadership gap as Interim President & CEO and was named to the position in September 2022.  Her work leading the organization out of Covid with the attendant health and safety concerns of our students, graduates, and staff, bringing our Chester Breeding Station back to full operations, as well as strong succession planning through leadership changes in the senior staff due to retirement has fully demonstrated Peggi’s strategy for inclusion, team building, and best practice work.

We will be celebrating Peggi at our 95th Celebration Gala, to be held Tuesday, June 11, at the Mountainside Country Club in West Caldwell, New Jersey.
