Tim and Orson

The photo shows U.S. Marine 1st Lt. Tim Fallon with his wife, Sarah, and Seeing Eye dog, a German shepherd named Orson.

Tim was leading a patrol in Afghanistan on Nov. 18, 2010, when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated in front of him. Tim was blinded by the blast but continued giving orders to the 75 men under his command until the situation was brought under control.

When Tim woke up in a hospital, he was told the shrapnel had damaged his eyes, leaving him blind. Once again, Tim refused to give up. Growing up near Morristown, N.J., Tim knew about The Seeing Eye and our amazing dogs. In 2012, he came to The Seeing Eye and was partnered with his first Seeing Eye dog, a German shepherd named Orson.

"I decided The Seeing Eye was the best option for me to move on with my life," he says. "And partnering with my Seeing Eye dog Orson has been transformational. It makes my life a lot easier and has really improved my confidence and independence."
